Powder Springs, GA

In 2015, Powder Springs elected Al Thurman, the first African-American mayor to represent a city in Cobb County. Founded in 1838 as Springville, it was named from the 7 Springs located within the town. Minerals found in the springs turned the sand black like "Gunpowder Springs," and its name was officially changed in 1859.  Today, Powder Springs is a community located just 22 miles from Atlanta. The median Home Value according to Zillow is $196,200 which has increased 9.6% in the past year.
